Vehicle travel is allowing wheel houses to explore the Voyageurs National Park ice road from the Kab visitor center all the way to Ash River. Almost everyone is experiencing consistent fishing with perch and walleye being the most common. 28-35 feet of water are your best depths over a mud bottom or the edges of most rocky points and reefs. Being mobile is key to stay on the active fish. As always, check with the park service before venturing off the ice road and know the laws regarding any plowing of personal roads.
Reef Runner Rentals and Kab Outdoors are both experiencing a decent bite in their rental houses. They both have a different adventure to offer so check in with Casey at Voyageur Park Lodge or Kent at Kab Outdoors for the latest information.
Spear fishing is still going strong. Gordon at Sandy Point Lodge plans to begin taking his spear houses off the lake but you can always explore different areas with portables. This has been a great year for spear fishing on Kab. Most areas are accessible, so the options are endless and the opportunity for that trophy still exists.
You can't beat spending a day on Kab right now. We continue to have excellent snowmobile trail conditions are grooming many times a week. All trails are marked and the lake trails should be groomed in the near future. The sledding hill is up and running and hopefully soon will have an ice rink to enjoy!
Gateway General continues to offer the most up to date reports as well as carrying all your ice fishing and Snowmobiling needs.
It continues to be a great winter in God's country!
