Minnewaska Area Fishing Report 8-20-09
Well the fishing in the Minnewaska Area is anything but predictable these days. The weather heated up over the last few weeks and made the daytime fishing a little tough with higher water temps. The few storm fronts that have blown through have also put a pinch on the fishing locally. The bass are active in most area lakes right now and can be found shallow in the low light of early morning. Spinnerbaits and large jigs with bulky trailers seem to be very effective for these early risers. On Minnewaska try hitting the docks and lifts on the south side, on Lake Scandi fish the deeper cabbage type weeds with a slow rolled spinner bait or a medium diving crankbait type lure. Northern pike can be found in the early morning or early evening hours cruising the shallows for baitfish, sucker minnows under a lighted bobber produced a number of fish last weekend. Anglers on Amelia have reported several pike landed that pushed 10 pounds in the past week. Try fishing the main points for the best action. Sunfish are always an old standby and can be caught on most area lakes this time of year, it’s great action for kids and new anglers. Night crawler niblets and wax worms have been keeping the bobber under better than anything else these days. These fish can usually be found schooling together in most emergent vegetation types. Good luck and have fun.
