Nisswa and Brainerd Area Fishing Report 6-1-09
The bluegill and bass fishing has been phenomenal this week. They are hanging out in the shallow reed beds and are willing to bite. The bluegills have really slurped up the Northland Fire Fly jigs tipped with a leech, wax worm, or piece of a night crawler. The bass have been biting well on leeches or Senko worms, Gulp sinking minnows, or small spinnerbaits. The crappie fishing is still pretty decent but they are starting to disappear one by one. You can still find them in the shallow pencil reeds but every lake can be a little different. With a little searching you can have some pretty good luck. A small crappie minnow on a plain hook under a slip float has been very productive. The walleye fishing has slowed a little bit. The fish are a little scattered and are in transition to some of their summertime haunts. Anglers have had decent luck trolling Rapala lures in the evenings or running a Lindy rig with a redtail chub or a leech during the morning and daytime hours. Most walleyes have been found in 14-24 feet of water.
